Apple Immersive Video: best for seeing the headset at its best

Apple's own format: 180-degree 8K recordings captured with Spatial Audio. You find them in the Apple TV app on your Vision Pro: tap Vision in the tab bar and choose any title marked Apple Immersive. Some titles can be downloaded to watch offline.

Where it beats us: Apple's production and Spatial Audio set the standard for immersive film, and they are the first thing we would show anyone. How you pay: the Apple TV app shows it on each title.

Explore POV: best for standing somewhere real, quietly

This is us. We film real places on location in VR180, in up to 16K, and play them back so you stand where the camera stood. The library holds 184 films across 21 destinations, most of them 1 to 5 minutes long. Apple named Explore POV Apple Vision Pro App of the Year 2025. The same account also plays our films in the browser on Meta Quest, Pico and Samsung Galaxy XR.

Where others do better: we have no narration, so if you want to be told about a place, HaloSphere does that. Our films are 180°, so you cannot turn round and look behind you as you can in a 360° film. You cannot steer or fly, as you can in FLY. And our films are short: most run 1 to 5 minutes, where Epic Earth's are whole movies.

HaloSphere: best for being told about a place as you look

3D 360° and 180° travel videos from over 15 countries, with guided narratives, subtitles in English and Chinese, and an offline mode. Its page lists underwater, European, Arctic, Asian, American and Oceanian journeys.

Where it beats us: narration and stories, 360° films you can look all the way round, and subtitles in two languages. How you pay: $10.99 a month or $119.99 a year, with other lengths in between.

Epic Earth: 3D Adventure Films

Epic Earth: best for a full film with a story

2D and 3D films shot on 15/70mm IMAX cameras and remastered in 4K, watched on a big screen in a virtual outdoor amphitheater. It also shows how the films were made.

Where it beats us: whole documentaries with a story to tell. The trade-off is that you watch a screen in front of you rather than standing inside the place. How you pay: per film, $14.99 to own or $3.99 to stream for 48 hours.

Immersive India: best for one country in depth

16K 180° 3D films of Indian cities, and short films on Indian art, culture and heritage, from Mumbai and Delhi to Rajasthan.

Where it beats us: depth on a single country, and you pay only for the films you watch. How you pay: rent a film from $1.99 or own one from $5.99, or take the $4.99 monthly Culture Pass.

FLY - Explore the Earth / VirZOOM

FLY: best for going anywhere, your way

Fly over the whole planet on a virtual drone, built on Google's 3D map tiles, from the ground to the edge of space. You set speed, heading and height with your body.

Where it beats us: you choose the place, anywhere on Earth, and you steer. The trade-off is that it is built from map imagery rather than filmed, so it shows you the shape of a place rather than a moment in it. How you pay: $14.99 for the app.

Spatial Earth: best for geography, and planning a real trip

A photorealistic 3D globe with over 2,300 cities in 3D, and zoom down to street level.

Where it beats us: the whole world at once, and a real sense of where places sit. Like FLY, it is map imagery, not film. How you pay: $4.99 for the app.

REWILD: best for wildlife

Scenes from the Netflix series Our Planet, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, with the ocean and its wildlife brought into your room.

Where it beats us: wildlife up close, and that narrator. It brings nature to you rather than taking you somewhere, and it focuses on the ocean. How you pay: no purchases listed.

How do Vision Pro travel apps charge?

Do any of these apps work on Meta Quest?

Explore POV does: our films play in the browser on Meta Quest, Pico and Samsung Galaxy XR with the same account. For the other apps we only read their Apple App Store pages, so check with each maker.
