Our Australian set is small and split down the middle between two things the continent does at extremes: coast and rainforest. On the coast, Sunset Over The Apostles is the centrepiece, eight unbroken minutes with the camera held completely still while the sky burns out over the Twelve Apostles. Coastal Cliffs and Along the Aussie Coast take the same shoreline at walking pace, one from the clifftop path and one down at the waterline where the swell is arriving beside you.
The rainforest titles are the ones that argue hardest for VR180. Rainforest is a difficult photographic subject and a superb stereoscopic one, because it is nothing but overlapping depth: a leaf at arm’s length, a trunk behind it, a canopy closing overhead, and no horizon anywhere to give a flat frame something to hang on. Beneath the Canopy walks a red dirt track through it, Aussie Rainforest Adventure goes further under the giants, and Bush Walk Into the Morning Light catches it early, while the sun is still coming through in shafts and the creek is running alongside.
Which half you want depends on the mood you are in more than the month. The southern coastline is at its most theatrical when the swell is up and the light stays low all day, which is the register Sunset Over The Apostles works in. The forest half reverses that entirely: it is close, green, saturated and loud, and The Waterfall is the title that shows what it looks like with water at full volume, standing under a dense canopy with a river running below you.
