New to Apple Vision Pro? Start somewhere beautiful.

Your first hour

This is the order we would give a friend who has just unboxed one. Most of it is Apple's own, and it should be: nobody shows off the headset better. We come last, and we have said why you might like us.

1. Environments, 5 minutes. Press the Digital Crown to bring up the Home View, then open an Environment. Apple's Environments replace your room with 360° landscapes such as Yosemite, Bora Bora and Jupiter, and turning the Crown sets how much of your room fades away. It is the quickest way to feel what the headset does.
2. Apple Immersive Video, 15 minutes. Open the Apple TV app, tap Vision in the tab bar and pick any title marked Apple Immersive. These are Apple's own 180-degree 8K recordings with Spatial Audio, and they set the bar for everything else on this page. Some titles can be downloaded to watch offline.
3. Spatial Gallery, 10 minutes. Apple's app of spatial photos, videos and panoramas, curated by Apple and added to over time. Short pieces, lots of variety, and a good sense of what spatial media can be.
4. One app from someone else, 15 minutes. Three we would point a friend to:
   • Epic Earth, for classic IMAX films: 2D and 3D films shot on 15/70mm IMAX cameras, remastered in 4K and shown on a big screen in a virtual outdoor amphitheater. You rent or buy each film.
   • REWILD, for wildlife in your own room: scenes from the Netflix series Our Planet, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, with ocean life brought into the space around you.
   • Immersive India, for a deep look at one country: 180° 3D films of Indian cities, art and culture, rented or bought one film at a time.
5. Then somewhere real, 15 minutes. That is us. Explore POV films real places on location in VR180, in up to 16K, with calm sound chosen for each film. Most films run 1 to 5 minutes, so one sitting takes in three or four places. Start with something still, like Lago di Braies Dawn in the Dolomites or Reine Viewpoint in Lofoten, then try a walk.

Three tips for the first week

• Share it with Guest User. Apple's Guest User lets someone else try your Vision Pro. You choose which apps they can see, and you can guide them from your iPhone or iPad with View Mirroring.
• Take it travelling. Travel Mode keeps what you are watching steady on a train, bus, car or plane. Download a few films before you go.
• Start seated. For a first watch, anything filmed from a still camera is the gentlest way in. Our still and calm collection is all of those.
