Strokkur's Power

Still view · Adventure · 2 minVR180 3DPremium

Stand beside Strokkur, in a geothermal valley on Iceland's Golden Circle, as its power builds and bursts upward. This fountain geyser erupts every six to ten minutes, usually to 15 to 20 metres and sometimes as high as 40. Its name means churn, and the English word geyser itself comes from Icelandic, from an old verb meaning to gush.

What to expect

The camera stays in one place for the full 2 min, so nothing pans or lurches and you set the pace by turning your head. If fast motion in a headset does not agree with you, this is one of the gentler ways in.

It is filmed in stereoscopic VR180, which means depth is real: near things sit close, far things stay far, and the water reads at proper scale instead of flattening onto a screen. Look up, look to the edges of the frame, and take your time. There is nothing to steer and nothing to learn.

We tag this one adventurous, and it sits in Iceland alongside the rest of what we have filmed there. It is included with a subscription.
