What to expect
The camera stays in one place for the full 2 min, so nothing pans or lurches and you set the pace by turning your head. If fast motion in a headset does not agree with you, this is one of the gentler ways in.
It is filmed in stereoscopic VR180, which means depth is real: near things sit close, far things stay far, and the mountain reads at proper scale instead of flattening onto a screen. Look up, look to the edges of the frame, and take your time. There is nothing to steer and nothing to learn.
We tag this one relaxing, and it sits in Switzerland alongside the rest of what we have filmed there. It is included with a subscription.
Lauterbrunnen Valley in VR180
Lauterbrunnen sits in the Bernese Oberland, in a valley a glacier gouged into a U and then walked away from. The walls run close to vertical for the better part of 300 metres, the floor is flat and green and barely a kilometre wide, and the count of waterfalls coming off the rock is usually given as 72. The best known of them falls almost the whole height of the cliff in a single unbroken drop that the wind turns to mist halfway down. Villages sit on the terraces above, the high peaks of the Bernese Oberland close the head of the valley, and one of the falls runs inside the mountain rather than down its face.
We filmed it from a viewpoint on the valley side as a still scene, two minutes with the camera fixed, and the catalog marks it as built to loop, so it can sit running as long as you want it. We tag it Relaxing. Nothing here moves except water and weather.
The reason this valley belongs in a headset is that it is essentially a vertical measurement. On a screen the cliffs compress into a backdrop and the meadow becomes wallpaper. Stereoscopic VR180 restores the separation: the near slope holds its position, the far wall stands across a real gap, and the drop from rim to floor reads as the distance it is.
